Hearing and Ear problems from the Perspective of a Musician
Hearing loss can sometimes be a symptom of other problems involving the area in and around the area of the ear. The need for hearing aids is sometimes confused with the actual loss of clarity in hearing. Hearing aids sometimes make the garbled loss of clarity louder, not more clear. I will be writing and explaining my many mysterious and strange hearing and ear issues and symptoms. Some of which are quite graphic, such as the diagnosis of spinal fluid, blood, liquified tissue, and more spilling out of my ears while playing.
During much of my career, I experienced chronic crackling, like a blown speaker in my ears. I also had various kinds of tinnitus, chronic infections, pain, distorted sounds, and periods where I was legally deaf. Wait until you hear about the symptoms of Superior Canal Dehiscence Syndrome(SCDS).
I had many ear surgeries over the years, including the serious major ear surgeries at the Mayo Clinic and Rush Hospital in Chicago. I'll talk about them at the SCM live events and also on this website, along with the successful (and not so successful) treatments.
As a working musician, I didn’t want anyone to know of my hearing problems. But when my hearing problems became public and obvious, I was very surprised hear from so many of my fellow musicians about their own hearing difficulties and how they also tried to hide their hearing issues for fear of losing work, as I had done.
If anyone reading article wants to discreetly discuss their hearing and ear issues with me, I can be contacted via the SCM email link.
We can have a phone call, however, legally I cannot give any specific medical advice.
I have a great deal of experience when it comes to ear issues and can be
difficult to get reliable information, especially from the perspective of a musician.
